Program Goals
- The ability to play an extensive repertoire of classical, contemporary, blues, jazz and accompaniment pieces
- Experience playing the piano as a natural form of self-expression
- Have a highly positive, self-affirming experience with music learning
- To develop the ability to progress independently in the following skill areas: playing, reading writing and composing music as well as improvisation, arrangement, structure and theory
Annual Goals
Year One:
- Develop the basics of accompaniment performance
- Learn 35-50 pieces of various musical genres
- Establish a strong foundation of playing
- Prepare for the introduction of music reading
Year Two:
- Develop accompaniment performance
- Learn 25-40 pieces of various musical genres
- Develop a music reading and writing foundation
- Develop a foundation of classical and popular music
- Develop a foundation of blues and jazz music
Year Three:
- Expand accompaniment performance
- Learn 15-30 pieces of various musical genres
- Develop an advanced understanding of classical and popular music
- Develop an advanced understanding of blues and jazz music
- Develop the basics of improvisation and arrangement
- Expand knowledge of theory and its practical application
